Workshop
Description: Healthcare clinicians are facing unprecedented challenges that affect their well-being and professional fulfillment. Burnout amongst clinicians has reached a crisis level and we believe it is our responsibility as healthcare leaders to create a culture that allows clinicians to thrive in their working environments. We are a group of academic healthcare leaders who support our clinician colleagues' professional growth and development. This workshop will begin with a brief introduction to Shanafelt’s Professional Fulfillment Model and explore its three domains: Culture of Wellness, Efficiency of Practice, and Personal Resilience. A summary of evidence-based interventions to improve well-being and professional fulfillment will be reviewed. Next, the audience will break into small groups and complete a self-assessment to help them define their “current state”. This deep reflective work will allow our participants to assess their personal values, meaningful work, strengths, and opportunities for growth. Next, participants will examine an “ideal future state” where values, meaningful work, and strengths become the driving force in their careers. Each group will be able to discuss their current and ideal state reflection with the content experts, who hold executive leadership positions in their respective institutions. To conclude, we will ask participants to commit to next steps using their new awareness and identify potential mentors/resources for ongoing support. Participants will leave with a packet that includes career assessment and strategic planning tools, suggested success metrics, and key evidence-based references.
