Session
Description: AAP President Ben Hoffman, MD, FAAP, began his career on the Navajo Nation. And though it’s been over 20 years since he left the Navajo people to return to academia, he has remained a fierce ally and advocate for the health and well-being of indigenous communities.
Dr. Hoffman will be joined by pediatricians Ryan Giroux, MD, Keena Sheak, MD and Shazeen Suleman MD who bring extensive insights from the US and Canada to describe the historical policies, structures and trauma that have shaped Indigenous health and the kind of authentic engagement and allyship with Indigenous communities needed to meaningfully improve health care delivery and outcomes for First Nations’ children and families.
