Workshop
Description: Are you ready to tap into the vast potential uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for patient education, supercharged research, and collaborative problem-solving? Join us as we explore the ethical applications of ChatGPT in academia and engage in lively discussions about when (and, perhaps more importantly, if) it should be employed. And guess what, if you like how this sounds, this introduction so far was written entirely by ChatGPT! Ok, it’s us again, a multi-disciplinary team of academic pediatricians, fellows, and software engineers, writing from here on out! This fun and interactive workshop will provide a primer on generative AI and highlight ways that it can be ethically applied in academics to save time, generate ideas, and improve our productivity.
Through a series of hands-on activities, participants will pit ChatGPT against traditional search engines to learn when one makes more sense to use one over the other, practice using generative AI as a brainstorming partner for research or education initiatives, and explore ways to use ChatGPT as an administrative tool to help tackle everything from writing prior authorization letters to creating program manuals.
Along the way, we will debate the ethical considerations of using generative AI in your academic work, including attribution and disclosure. Participants will leave this workshop with an improved understanding of generative AI's role in academia and the tools to ethically harness this transformative technology to support their academic pursuits.
