Workshop
Description: Much is known about the unique medical and care coordination care needs of children with medical complexity (CMC), a rapidly growing pediatric population who have multiple chronic health conditions which affect multiple organ systems and result in extremely high health care utilization, as well as a reliance on medical technology. CMC and their families also have unique and evolving behavioral health needs that are often unmet. Integrating behavioral health into the primary care space for these patients can allow for better access to vital services; however, challenges exist in this model as well. In this workshop we will leverage the perspectives and voices of our interdisciplinary team and the families of CMC to explore the needs and challenges of behavioral health care. Through case studies we will develop a framework for optimizing care that can be adapted to the attendees’ local context.
