Workshop
Description: Leadership often starts before a word is spoken. Status and hierarchy are often judged when walking into the room. However, many people are not even given the luxury to speak in the first place. How can we learn about the habits, biases, and experiences that shape communication and leadership potential, as well as help others around us?
Good communication depends on knowing oneself, all our own triggers, biases and baggage that we carry like an invisible backpack into every interaction, impacting our verbal and non-verbal communication. In this powerful and interactive workshop, we will start by unpacking and recognizing what we bring unconsciously into the room. Next we will work on sharpening our observation and communication skills to help understand our interactions and the implication on status and team dynamics.
The goal of the workshop is to help overcome hierarchies, empower participants to enhance their own communication as well as support marginalized groups. In this workshop the facilitators who speak across the country on the subjects of leadership, improv, communication, and inclusivity, bring together their skills to provide tools to enhance communication and leadership. This interactive workshop will use proven tools which borrow from disciplines including business, sociology, trauma informed care, narrative medicine, improvisational theater, and magic. In addition to navigating these exercises which will allow for internal understanding, participants will leave with a toolkit of exercises and resources to bring back home to continue this work as well as provide to colleagues.
