Session
Description: Targeted at pulmonologists, and subspecialist or generalist pediatricians, these 3 rapidfire debates will address current controversies in management of pulmonary infections in children. The focus is on practical and applicable analysis of available data, and attempting to provide some consensus at the end. They will feature established and rising stars in the world of Infectious Diseases,
The topics are: 1. That bronchoalveolar lavage should be routinely performed in profoundly immunocompromised children with suspected lung infection; 2. That inhaled antibiotics should be used more frequently for treatment of children with complicated lung infections; 3. That there is no role for empiric atypical therapy for children with community-acquired pneumonia unless they have a positive test for atypical bacteria.
