Description: Human milk feeding protects infant health outcomes, but it remains a restricted resource for many populations who struggle to reach their lactation goals. For a population such as very preterm infants, exposure to human milk bioactives is critical for infant health, yet nutritional supplementation is needed to achieve infant growth and development goals. In the 2024 PAS Milk Club, we will delve into two populations in which innovative interventions are optimizing human milk delivery. Dr. Sharon Unger from Sinai Health in Toronto will present her comprehensive work to determine the human milk feeding approach to harmonize the very preterm infant’s nutritional and immunologic needs. Dr. Alison Mildon from the University of Toronto will present her work to empower socially and economically vulnerable women to achieve their lactation goals.
