Session

Description: This symposium session will discuss unique challenges in pediatric kidney transplantation for patients in special populations that may not be commonly encountered by many nephrologists. The session will provide an overview of the main challenges to transplant in each special population, as well as considerations when working the patient up and preparing them for transplant. Additionally, the session will review the current evidence for available and emerging therapeutics for these patient populations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will understand transplant considerations for survivors of childhood cancer, including risk of recurrence, PTLD, and post-transplant complications.
  • Upon completion, participants will know available and emerging therapeutic options for patients who are highly sensitized and patients with complement dysregulation.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to describe emerging evidence on the role of Dual Immune/Solid Organ Transplant (DISOT) for children with kidney disorders.
