Description: While the management of hypertension has long involved recommendations for lifestyle modification, these have focused on diet exercise and weight loss. While this approach has been of critical importance to mitigate the impact of obesity and sodium intake in primary hypertension, it has not acknowledged, much less addressed, the social determinants of hypertension. This topic symposium will explore the recent advances in the understanding of social and environmental contributors to chronic hypertension and societal change and advocacy needed to address the foundations of the common disease.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the socio-economic risk factors for childhood hypertension.
Upon completion, participants will be able to screen for adverse childhood experiences as a risk factor for early onset hypertension.
Upon completion, participants will be able to develop a screening plan for elevated blood pressure associated with assisted reproductive therapies.
