Session
Description: WIth high incidence of hyperglycemia in neonatal encephalopathy, the potential contributions of abnormal blood sugars to hypoxic-ischemic brain injury and long-term outcomes has become an important clinical question. This symposium brings together pre-clinical and clinical research, neurology, neonatology, and endocrinology to discuss the latest research regarding the contributions of hyperglycemia to brain dysfunction, injury, and outcomes in animal and human studies. Incorporating endocrinological considerations regarding glucose metabolism and management in the context of neonatal hypoxia-ischemia, future directions in regards to glucose management in neonatal encephalopathy will be discussed.
