Session
Description: Simulation training offers a risk-free environment for novice and seasoned clinicians to achieve and maintain competency. Due to duty hour restrictions and decreasing procedural exposure, simulation is a vital component of pediatric training and clinical practice However, simulation based medical education is only as good as it’s design. Simulation curricula that adequately reflect conceptual frameworks for adult learning are important and necessary to identify achievable learning objectives, create reproducible curricula, and render the work scholarly.
In this interactive workshop, facilitators will describe the conceptual frameworks that apply to simulation based medical education and demonstrate techniques for applying them to various curricula. Facilitators will demonstrate novel approaches to designing scholarly simulation curricula, particularly around how the technical aspects of the simulation may vary in relation to the proposed learning theory. Participants will then participate in small group activities with experts in the field to learn how to best apply conceptual frameworks to their simulation curricula and successfully publish their simulation work.
