Description: The Science of Rehabilitation in High-Risk Infants
Currently selected infants are identified as “high-risk” for adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes, including the preterm infant and the term infant with brain injury. These infants experience a diversity of rehabilitative and “early intervention” strategies ranging from intensive therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit through childhood to a minimum of such interventions. There is a growing science regarding the opportunity for targeted strategies to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes in high-risk infant populations related to the nature and timing of their injury and the related rehabilitative strategy. This symposium aims to address current gaps in knowledge by informing the audience of the current state of understanding of neurobiological and therapy-based approaches to improving outcomes in high-risk infants.
