Session
Description: Over the course of this 5.5-hour session, we will provide a comprehensive overview of how artificial intelligence is poised to fundamentally change the nature of academic neonatology. This session is designed for learners at all stages from novice through expert; a technical background is not necessary. All talks will follow a systematic approach highlighting what has been done so far, current limitations, and the potential future benefits. We will also discuss misconceptions, skepticism, and potential regulatory implications. Time will be allotted for audience Q&A.
The session will begin with an introduction to AI concepts and move through a "showcase" of how it is already being applied to major NICU problems (including sepsis, BPD, NEC, and others). Prior to lunch, the discussion will move to ChatGPT with an in-depth conversation of how computers will aid in writing papers, clinical guidelines, letters of recommendation, and the ethical challenges it raises. Participants should bring a laptop to use these tools along with the speakers.
After lunch, we will host an AI competition. Teams of AI researchers will be given a NICU problem and a sample dataset in advance. Each team will build their best AI model and present the results in front of a live audience, hoping to win their hearts and minds. The audience will then vote on the most convincing approach and a winner will be crowned. We will conclude with a networking reception, where likeminded individuals can connect and foster future collaborations. Pre-session coffee and a box lunch are included.
Cost: $125 (includes box lunch)
