Description: This pre-conference course will address all aspects of perinatal stroke, focusing on the latest advancements in patient care, with a strong emphasis on case-based learning. The first section will discuss perinatal arterial ischemic stroke (PAIS) and cerebral sinus venous thrombosis (CSVT), including new and emerging neuroprotection strategies for perinatal stroke. The next section will discuss specific considerations in regards to stroke in specific populations, including in the fetus, the preterm newborn, and in the context of congenital heart disease. The final section will address long-term outcomes after perinatal stroke and the importance of considering the family experience in the management perinatal stroke. A panel will discuss the latest American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines and discuss outstanding controversies in the management of perinatal stroke and CSVT.
