Workshop
Description: Graduating pediatric residents and fellows have identified a need for more education in career development and the "business" of medicine. Faculty within the AAP Society of Hospital Medicine Subcommittee of Pediatric Educators have developed this workshop to provide an opportunity for residents and fellows to discuss a wide range of high-yield topics with pediatric faculty from across the nation. Utilizing our collective experiences and areas of professional interest, we will address topics pertinent to the transition from trainee (resident and fellow) to early junior faculty. Topics will include the job search, mentorship, continuing medical education, the basics of finances, and deciding what to say "yes" to as you start your career. The workshop is formatted as a “Knowledge Café” with themed small group discussions designed to promote open dialogue, networking, and collaborative learning among presenting faculty and attendees. After a brief introduction of the presenters and workshop goals, participants will rotate through themed tables, each focused on a different aspect of career planning. Table leaders will offer experience-based pearls, answer questions, and encourage interactive discussions amongst leaders and attendees.
