Workshop
Description: In a world where personal and professional fulfillment can often feel elusive, the ancient Japanese concept of Ikigai offers a clear roadmap. Originating from the Japanese words “iki” (life) and “gai” (value or worth), Ikigai represents not just an idea but a way of life, symbolizing the convergence of what one loves, what one is skilled at, what the world needs, and what one can be compensated for.
This interactive workshop highlights the transformative potential of Ikigai when applied within the context of professional coaching. We will kickstart the journey with an introduction to Ikigai and time to reflect on one’s own passion, mission, profession, and vocation. Then, by blending it with professional coaching, specifically the GROW model, attendees will explore diverse paths that could lead them to discover the joy in medicine. Attendees will participate in two main small-group activities, one focusing on utilizing coaching skills to advance their own Ikigai journeys, and the other aimed at equipping them with strategies to coach learners through their unique paths. The workshop culminates in a dynamic large-group session, where challenges are discussed, 'aha' moments are shared, and a toolkit for coaching for professional fulfillment is provided, which can be taken back to home institutions to foster growth and development for both learners and faculty.
