Workshop
Description: In an era marked by a rising occurrence of mass casualty incidents (MCIs), physicians must adapt and excel in their response capabilities. This workshop offers a dynamic and interactive experience, empowering participants with both the knowledge and practical skills essential for effective MCI responses across diverse settings.
This workshop includes a comprehensive exploration of MCIs, elucidating the collaborative role played by emergency medical services and hospitals. Engaging activities, such as word cloud mapping and polling, will gauge participants' existing knowledge and confidence levels in responding to MCIs.
The workshop will also provide hands-on, interactive stations, focusing on crucial clinical skills for MCIs. Participants will engage in scenario-based learning and practice to master an incident triage algorithm for efficient triage, rapid assessment, and treatment. Additionally, they will receive practical instruction on tourniquet creation and effective bleeding control techniques.
The session will then facilitate hospital preparedness by guiding participants, grouped by practice settings (clinic or inpatient), in crafting MCI preparedness plans. The workshop will emphasize the importance of community-centered care, offering insights into tailoring support for children and families directly or indirectly affected by MCIs, with a special focus on addressing mental health needs and the unique requirements of children with special healthcare needs. The workshop will conclude with a forum for sharing key insights, fostering cross-practice collaboration.
