Workshop
Description: A strong study team is essential for the success of research and quality improvement (QI) projects; key member(s) of this team should include research assistants (RAs) and/or clinical research coordinators (CRCs) who provide on-the-ground support for patient recruitment, retention, data collection, and chart review. Identifying capable and efficient research professionals who will make meaningful short- and long-term contributions to your projects can be challenging, and turnover can have detrimental impacts on projects and teams. Whether you are just getting started as a researcher and thinking about hiring your first part-time staff member or looking to scale up your team for a big grant, this workshop will provide the knowledge and skill set needed to confidently approach building your team to include incredible research professionals who are productive, engaged, and grow with you and your team long-term.
In this workshop, our group of physician research leaders, research project/program managers, CRCs, and RAs bring decades of experience within various research team infrastructures and can describe these processes from the perspective of their different programs. We will review how to evaluate the needs and values of your current research team before posting a job, fundamentals of research professional roles and corresponding skill sets and salaries, extracting meaningful information from the interview process, making smart hiring decisions, and providing ongoing career development opportunities to support long-term retention. Participants will leave with a research team toolkit that they can take back to their institution to start, build, and grow their research team infrastructure.
