Workshop
Description: Come join energetic faculty with over 60 years of combined experience in teaching community health and advocacy. This workshop is designed for people interested in creating or improving a community pediatrics program that enables residents to lead effective community-based projects. As the ACGME requirements change, more residencies are interested in how to move to the next level with their advocacy training. We will guide you through the core elements of advanced advocacy training through an immersive experience. You will participate in the fundamental paradigm shifts that allow physicians to move from the culture of the academic medical center to the practice of evidence-based community health. We will focus on partnering with community groups. We will share with you a tool kit that you can bring back to your home program; this will provide examples from around the country that illustrate a broad range of topics, including areas like: basics of public health, project planning, evaluation, behavior change, policy change, etc. We will discuss ideas for how to integrate these elements into a formal curriculum. You will leave this workshop more energized about advanced advocacy skills, armed with a toolbox of curricular elements to tailor to your own individual institution, ready to change the world!
