Workshop
Description: Clinical pathways are structured, evidence-based multidisciplinary care plans that assist clinicians in standardizing care with the goal of improving patient outcomes. They are commonly written by multidisciplinary medical providers and healthcare professionals who, while well intentioned, may inadvertently publish content that contains biases toward certain groups. Bias in clinical pathways can have significant implications for patient outcomes, resulting in unequal care or limited access to appropriate healthcare interventions based on certain social or demographic factors.
In this workshop participants will be introduced to eight common domains of biases encountered in clinical pathways. Participants will then have an opportunity to strengthen their skills in detecting these biases through an interactive activity using a novel tool created by the presenters. This will be followed by a discussion of proposed solutions for eliminating these biases and achieving better healthcare outcomes for pediatric patients across various care locations.
