Session
Description: In the early 1990's the increase of he number of women going into pediatrics was predicted to portend the decline in academic pediatrics mainly related to a move from scholarly, serious research and subspecialty care to an emphasis on clinical care and primary pediatrics.. Similar concerns have been expressed internationally though not confined to pediatrics but to the entire field of medicine. Publications raise concern about the of the productivity of the medical work force with data from Canada, Bangladesh and Israel. The Women in Medicine SIG will examine the predictions about the decline in academic pediatrics and include the concerns raised internationally about medicine in general.
Speaker: Cindy W. Christian, MD (she/her/hers) – Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
