Session
Description: What an exciting time in neonatal transfusion medicine. This symposium will discuss recent advances in the field, starting with WHEN we should transfuse both red blood cells and platelet into preterm infants. We will review the latest evidence from the TOP, ETTNO and PlaNeT-2 randomized trials. Next, we will discuss WHAT we should be transfusing, increasing the audience’s knowledge of the potential impact of the blood products and donors used for neonatal transfusion by highlighting cutting-edge research in the field. We will finish with how patient blood management can be used to translate evidence to the bedside. The session will conclude with a robust discussion about the current state of evidence in neonatal transfusion and gaps that need to be addressed.
