Description: The NEC Club will explore urgent research priorities for necrotizing enterocolitis. The NEC Society brings together a team of diverse stakeholders who built a prioritized research agenda for the NEC community. This session will be facilitated by NEC Society Scientific Advisory Council members, moderating by Camilia Martin, MD, MS, Neonatology Division Chief, Weill Cornell Medicine with presentations from Ravi Patel, MS, MSc, Professor of Pediatrics, Emory University, Jennifer Canvasser, MSW, founder/executive director, NEC Society, Susan Hintz, MD, MS, Robert L. Hess Family Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University, Chris Gale, MD, MSc Professor, Neonatal Medicine, Imperial College in London, and Misty Good, MD, MS Neonatology Division Chief, UNC Chapel Hill.
The NEC Club presentations will include: 1) From an audacious idea to an international movement: how the NEC Society is building a world without NEC by Jennifer Canvasser; 2) Five New Studies in NEC: Research Advances in the Field by Ravi Patel, MD, MSc; 3) Opportunities, Challenges and Updates on Large Clinical Trials for NEC by Chris Gale, MD, MSc; 4) Understanding neurodevelopmental and long-term outcomes after NEC: Opportunities for improvement by Susan Hintz, MD, MS; 5) Uniting Against a Rare Disease: Collaborative Approaches to Necrotizing Enterocolitis Research by Misty Good, MD, MS.
The risks and consequences of necrotizing enterocolitis span far beyond the gut and the NICU walls. Accordingly, the NEC Club will be of high interest by multidisciplinary specialists across different fields and professions and trainees, and anyone aiming to improve overall outcomes for neonates and their families.
