Session
Description: Given the rapid uptake of mobile devices and novel technologies, pediatricians and caregivers may have many unanswered questions about the relationships between technology and parenting, early childhood development, and literacy. This session aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complex landscape of technology and early development by understanding how to harness the benefits and mitigate the risks for young children. Additionally, presenters will bring to light the complexity of screen time in research. International researchers in the field will share their expertise on topics including young children’s engagement with e-books, nursery rhyming apps and YouTube; young children’s screen media exposures; and children’s interaction with artificial intelligence (e.g., Chat GPT, generative AI-created text, virtual assistants) – followed by an interactive question and answer portion. For the second part of the session, a poster session will be hosted along with the Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Special Interest Group and Literacy Development Programs in Primary Care Special Interest Group business meetings.
