Description: Unexpectedly elevated blood pressure is a common situation in pediatrics. While often evaluated and managed in isolation, numerous non-renal diseases, and their directed therapies can cause blood pressure dysregulation that may be transient or sustained. Understanding when to have increased index of suspicion for sustained hypertension as well as knowing when medications or other therapies need to be modified to avoid hypertension target organ damage is critical to optimizing care. This symposium will address some of the common scenarios where hypertension may impact therapy of diseases not traditionally thought to involve high blood pressure.
