Session
Description: Overall Session Title: Thinking Outside the Box: Identifying Novel Opportunities for Interdisciplinary Collaborations between Physicians and Non-Physicians in Academic Pediatric Settings
Description: Interdisciplinary research optimizes the adage “the sum is greater than the parts.” This SIG session will begin by having two speakers share their experiences with such collaborations at their own institutions. The first speaker will highlight how his background in psychology and behavioral economics were applied to quality improvement programs. He will detail how his knowledge added value to various initiatives and resulted in publications, invited talks, external funding, and service activities. The second speaker will share her experience as a maternal and child health epidemiologist focused on improving health outcomes in underserved populations with an out of the box collaboration with pediatric surgeons and anesthesiologists.
Following these two presentations, attendees will break into smaller groups at their own tables to discuss: (1) their own awareness of and experience with other novel interdisciplinary initiatives and (2) potential plans for identifying new collaborators at their own institutions.
Finally, each small group will report out to the larger group regarding lessons learned and potential new ideas to share.
