Description: The Bilirubin Club is a global academic forum to discuss, debate and delve into the biology of bilirubin in the context of research, clinical practice, public policy and therapeutics to promote human well-being. These matters include the understanding of fetal and neonatal hemolysis, inherited red blood cell disorders including glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency as well as disorders of the enterohepatic bilirubin circulation and bilirubin conjugation that are aggravated by increasing prematurity. With contributions from bioengineers, biochemists, nurses, and global health researchers. affordable transformative neonatal public health policies? initiatives? guidelines? were formed and introduced in their populations, which have saved lives, prevented brain damage, reduced the need for blood exchange transfusion, and promoted maternal bonding at bedside and implementation of effective, rapid response to timely and safe phototherapy. This has been a noble collective health journey and it is also time to take stock of the evidence to implement and consolidate? novel safety measures, minimize the over-use of interventions, and continue to seek proven alternative global health care approaches both ethically and equitably.
