Description: This post-graduate course will cover current hot-topics in the care of neonates with cardiac disease. Our experienced speakers cover a broad breadth of experience, including Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Intensive Care, and Neonatal Intensive Care. The course is designed to deliver a cardiology perspective on current evidence-based and consensus care strategies for fetuses and neonates with congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, and PDAs. These topics include:
-the importance of communication and the key points of successful collaboration
-criteria for and outcomes with fetal echocardiography
-requirements for safe skin to skin in neonates with critical congenital heart disease and evidence of its benefits
-delivery room and nursery/NICU management of neonates with congenital heart disease
-interpretation of EKGs and management of arrhythmias in neonates
-evidence for feeding protocols in neonates with congenital heart disease
-treatment of pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure
-special considerations for "code blue" resuscitation of neonates with cardiac etiologies
-unique challenges in treating premature infants with congenital heart disease
-importance of Neonatal and Interventional Cardiology collaboration for PDA closures in a large referral center
