WIP 97 - Scoping Review of Pediatric Disaster Medicine Training Curricula and Modified Delphi for Core Competencies of Pediatric Disaster Medicine Training across Provider Professions and Disciplines

Background: Disasters profoundly, and often disproportionally, impact children. The increased frequency and scope of disasters has heighted awareness that as healthcare providers we all have a role in disaster management. Given decreasing pediatric capacity and resources across the healthcare system, there is a greater imperative for pediatric disaster training of healthcare providers, including non-pediatric trained and/or non-disaster focused providers, across professions and disciplines in hospital, pre-hospital and community settings.

Objective: 1. Conduct a global scoping literature review of published pediatric disaster medicine training curricula to identify pediatric disaster knowledge and skills being taught to pediatric and non-pediatric trained providers.
2. Conduct a modified Delphi study with pediatric disaster medicine subject matter experts (SMEs) to establish consensus knowledge and skills competencies for profession and discipline specific as well as team pediatric disaster training.

Design/Methods: Scoping review identified articles published 01/01/2000 to 12/30/2022 that included pediatric disaster curriculum based on 22 terms to identify "children," 47 terms for "disaster," and 30 terms for "training." Articles were uploaded to Covidence for review of inclusion/exclusion criteria. Outcome measures included training site, participants, topics, skills, learning modalities, on-going vs single session, impact assessment. Scoping review did not require IRB approval. Review and analysis of the 136 articles of 62,004 identified that met inclusion criteria for full text review, will be completed by Dec 15, 2023. Modified Delphi review will be performed guided by scoping review findings. Delphi will be conducted using Stat59 software, which allows for real time based collaboration with an unlimited number of SMEs. Potential SMEs across professions and disciplines have been identified. IRB approval for Delphi is anticipated by November 30th. Data collection, analysis, and compendium of core competencies will be completed by April 1st, 2024.
